Peace vs. War

This is an essay Jessie wrote for school. She has agreed that I can post it here.

Peace is...

War is...
Peacefull Wasting lives
Excellent Vs. A thing that brings change
A little progress Remains hard at times
Can save lives
Enlightning

War can bring good and bad change. Peace, on the other hand, only brings good change. We won our independence through the Revolutionary War, but if there had been peace we could have talked things out with the King of England. Because the North won the Civil War, slavery is against the law. Peace would have brought a faster and less tragic change. A good example of a peace-won victory is when Martin Luther King, Jr. tried to stop segregation in a non-violent way. Some people didn't like what he was doing and tried to force him to be violent and finally killed him, but enough people joined his cause to eventually stop segregation. Even today we are at war, but we are at war with a good cause. We have troops fighting for other countries' freedom like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Pakistan. Perhaps, in time, we will help them work it out peacefully.

Peace only brings good change, and war CAN bring good change. War solves problems, but at a high price. Peace doesn't, and it can help everybody. Peace can save lives.
