Wow. I didn't really realize how long it had been...
Anyway, yesterday we were reminded why you poke holes in potatoes before baking them. I'd put a bunch of potatoes in the oven for dinner. While they baked we were playing Life. As they were reaching the end of their baking time, we noticed the house was smelling slightly burnt. So I went to check on the potatoes. One of them had exploded, leaving an empty, crispy potato peel and a bunch of potato guts all over the oven...
I'm sure the potato next to it was traumatized by having it's friends remains plastered on it... :)
Still, the rest of the potatoes survived, until we ate them. And they were still yummy...

We've had that happen to us before. It is not fun to clean up!
Do you ever bake potatoes in the microwave, or am I the only person who does that? It took me several experiments to figure out how to do it - just poking holes isn't enough. It still takes quite a while, but I can bake several large potatoes in under 20 minutes.

I stopped poking holes in my potatoes after I worked a place that did baked potatoes and we just cleaned them and wrapped them up and put them in the oven--no problem! Even in the microwave I don't and I've never had an explosion--next time I will!:) I think the oven kind are the best.
