Jessie is now in 5th grade, her last year at the elementary school. She is once again a class representative on the Student Council. For the first nine weeks, she is a member of ABE's Brigade (the safety patrol). She was selected to be a part of the district 5th Grade Honor Choir that will perform at an arts exhibit in October. In the GT program, the first half of the year they go to a miniclass at UH Clear Lake. The class she is taking is Knights and Castles. She has also started another season of bowling, and her average is about a 93 currently. Jessie recently got a new Primary teacher. Her teacher is also a school teacher, and she was one of Dee's counselors in the Young Woman presidency. Sunday after Sacrament Meeting she came to Dee and asked, "Has Jessie been identified as GT yet?"
Brennan is now in 3rd grade. He is also doing well in school so far. He just started fall baseball, which means he is now in kid pitch. His first game was Saturday. There is no official score kept in the fall, but his team didn't do so well. The innings are longer, and the games are timed, so we didn't play as many innings as we had hoped. If the game had gone another inning, Brennan would have pitched. I imagine that he will get a chance to pitch this weekend. In practice, he has been fairly consistent with his control. In his first at-bat, he grounded to the pitcher (one of the rare times the ball was put into play...), and in his second at-bat he walked.
The biggest news for Brennan is that just before school started we learned that he has astigmatism in his right eye, bad enough that at some point his brain stopped using that eye. Which leads to the question, "How does he hit and catch so well with only one eye?" Anyway, he now has glasses. Here's a picture:
Dee's school has started again as well, so she has a new group of 2-year-olds. One interesting experience from Friday was helping to calm a very distraught 2-year-old who only speaks Turkish--which oddly enough, doesn't happen to be a language the Dee speaks... But apparently she was the only one he wanted to deal with for the first couple of hours. Dee is also busy with PTA and recruiting members.
I spent far too much time a few weeks ago trying to fix plumbing, and not enough time working on several other house-related projects. I have also kept working on sorting Legos for sale, although again, not as quickly as we would hope. I was just called to be the Stake Technology Specialist.
Don't be surprised if I post again soon to add in all the stuff Dee reminds me of that I forgot.
